On July 27, the Government House announced that a site located at 77 & 79 Hiu Kwong Street, Kwun Tong, New Kowloon Inland Lot No. 6677, was granted to BYD (H.K.) Co., Limited (parent company: BYD Co., Ltd.) for HK$12 million, with a lease term of twelve years. BYD was the highest bidder. The site area is approximately 11,002 square feet and is designated for use as an electric vehicle charging station.

The 2026 International Automotive and Supply Chain (Hong Kong) Expo opened June 18 at AsiaWorld-Expo in Chek Lap Kok. The five-day exhibition runs until June 22. This year’s expo is smaller than last year’s, with only Halls 5, 7, and 9 open. It has attracted approximately 11 mainland Chinese automotive groups, including FAW Hongqi, Geely (Jikk, Cao Cao, and Farizon), BYD (and Denza), Dongfeng (Voyah and Mengshi), SAIC (MG and IM Motors), GAC (GAC and AION), Chery (ICAUR and Jaecoo), Leapmotor, JAC, Firefly, and DFSK. Many of these new models are scheduled to launch in Hong Kong later this year or next year.
FAW Hongqi (HongQi) is showcasing its strongest lineup at this exhibition, displaying three right-hand drive export versions of its new vehicles. Among them is the Hongqi HongQi E-HS9 flagship pure electric 6-seater SUV, which will first go on sale in Hong Kong. Equipped with a 120kWh lithium battery and dual-motor four-wheel drive, it delivers 637ps of horsepower and 710Nm of torque, with a WLTP range of 548km. The initial price starts at HK$998,800, with the first batch of deliveries expected in the third quarter.
Another vehicle making its Hong Kong debut is the right-hand drive Hongqi HongQi EHS5 pure electric mid-size SUV, reportedly going on sale later this year, with an initial price below HK$400,000. Also noteworthy is the unnamed Hongqi HongQi Global SUV, a new small pure electric SUV co-developed by Hongqi and Leapmotor. The right-hand drive version is expected to go into production in 2027, and it is understood that the Hong Kong distributor, Kam Lung Motors Group, will also import and sell it.

The budget announced that the tax credit for trading in EVs for one will not be extended after March 31. Prices of several EV models are expected to increases starting from April 1. Tesla’s newly launched Model Y L 6-seater, released today, is priced at HKD$500,000 (including tax). The Model 3 RWD, with a trade-in price of only HKD$249,000, will increase by over HKD$100,000 to HKD$357,000, an increase of over 40%. The BYD Sealion 7 Premium, originally priced at HKD$268,000, will increase by 42% to HKD$380,000; the BYD Atto 2, with a trade-in price of HKD$155,000, will now increase to HKD$228,000, an increase of 47%.

Financial Secretary Paul Chan announced the Budget 2026 on 25th February, which includes a tax reduction for first-time registration of electric vehicles, including the “one-for-one” program. This program will expire at the end of March this year and will not be continued. Large numbers of citizens flocked to various electric vehicle brand showrooms that evening to “catch the last train.”
BYD announced on 27th February that it recorded over 800 electric vehicle orders on the 25th February alone. 比亞迪股份的業績去年在股神巴菲特不斷減持期間迎來爆發式增長，期內收入達4,240.6億元（人民幣‧下同），按年增長96.19%；純利大增4.45倍至166.22億元；扣除非經常損益後的淨利潤為156.37億元，增幅更達11.46倍。更重要的是，汽車及相關業務毛利率亦見改善，按年增3.69個百分點至20.39%，惟與海外產業龍頭仍有一定差距。

路透報道引述知情人士表示，蘋果正與中國電池供應商比亞迪（1211）及寧德時代就電動車項目的電池供應進行初步洽談，不過相關洽談仍有變數，蘋果、寧德時代及比亞迪並沒有評論以上消息。
據報道指其中兩名知情人士表示，蘋果已將在美國建設製造工廠作為其電池供應商的條件，該公司是特斯拉等主要車企的供應商。目前尚不清楚蘋果是否也在與其他電池製造商進行談判。
